PROSTHETICS / DENTAL PROTHESIS

Prosthodontics or prosthetic dentistry generally involves the restoration or preservation of masticatory function, speech (phonetics) and appearance (aesthetics).  If a patient has missing teeth or a set of teeth in need of extensive restoration, a dental prothesis is usually needed. A basic distinction is made between permanent restoration (e.g. crowns, bridges and veneers) and removable dentures, which describes any type of prosthesis.

In general, dental protheses include: crowns, bridges, prostheses (partial prostheses, full prostheses), combined forms, implant-supported crowns or prostheses.
